U.S. Presidential candidate Joe Biden has formally announced US Senator Kamala Harris as his Vice Presidential running mate in the forthcoming elections. The announcement follows a relatively long search by Joe Biden for a running mate, a search that saw a handful of politicians vetted for the role. Officially, it's now gone to Senator Harris, making her the third woman to serve as vice presidential candidate for a major political party.

Before the formal pick, Biden was reported to have considered candidates including Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois for the VP role. Now with Harris' appointment, the Biden campaign seems set for a political standoff that'll be bolstered by $280 million in planned advertising spending.
