Russia: Saudi Arabia And UAE To Test [Controversial] Coronavirus Vaccine - [Brief]

The government of Russia has reached an agreement to conduct clinical trials of its recently announced controversial coronavirus vaccine in Saudi Arabia and UAE, according to the head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund. The Russians are working with a pharmaceutical company in Saudi Arabia and have already shared data from Phase I and Phase II trials with partners in the country, according to Kirill Dmitriev, the chief executive officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

“We’ll really engage with Saudi scientists and the Saudi Health Ministry,” Dmitriev said. “We believe that Saudi will be a very strong partner for our joint work on the Sputnik V vaccine.” Dmitriev said in a statement to Arab News.

The news comes on the heels of the Philippines' president Rodrigo Duterte conceding that he may take part in tests of Russia's coronavirus vaccine.

Russia recently announced a vaccine for the coronavirus named Sputnik V but has been met with scrutiny and skepticism from experts globally concerning its safety and touted effectiveness.
