Robinhood Raises Extra $200 Million, Now Valued At $11.2 Billion

Photo by Noam Galai/Getty Images for TechCrunch, under Creative Commons license Robinhood, the popular stock trading app, has once again raised new funding, this time a $200 million cash infusion from D1 Capital Partners, a New York-based hedge fund that's primarily focused on the technology sector. The investment is said to value Robinhood at $11.2 billion, up from $8.6 billion when the company raised funding just in July. With the new funding, Robinhood has now raised a total of $1.7 billion in known funding since its inception. The San Francisco-based company scored $180 million in revenue in the second quarter of this year.

Bridgewater Bets Hundreds Of Millions On Gold

Ray Dalio, Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer, Bridgewater Associates. Bridgewater Associates, the famous hedge fund led by billionaire Ray Dalio, invested more than $400 million in gold in the second quarter of this year, as indicated by filings. Investing via exchange-traded funds, Bridgewater during the quarter bought 1.4 million shares in the SPDR Gold Shares ETF and 4.1 million shares in the iShares Gold Trust. Altogether, the two positions equate to 170,000 ounces of gold at current prices. According to filings, Bridgewater's total equity assets now stand at $6 billion. The hedge fund, which manages well over $100 billion for investors, suffered sizeable losses as the coronavirus pandemic affected markets globally. American singer Taylor Swift has thrown shade at U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that he's engaging in "calculated dismantling" of the United States Postal Service (USPS) in order to hold on to power. The USPS comes into concern here as the usual handler of mail-in votes for U.S. elections. The postal service recently warned 46 out of 50 U.S. states that it may not be able to deliver mail-in votes on time and to such problems, critics have particularly blamed the recently appointed Postmaster General Louis Dejoy, who is himself known to be a loyal Trump supporter and was appointed despite concerns of conflict-of-interest due to him and his wife declaring at least $30 million worth of holdings in USPS competitors or contractors. IAC's Barry Diller Takes Up Board Seat At MGM

Diller is joining MGM's board along with IAC's current CEO, Joey Levin, bringing the total number of members on MGM's board now to 14. The quarter finals loss came as quite a shock and is leading to City's exit from the current Champions League competition. If City had won, the club's coach, Pep Guardiola, would have been headed for a semi-finals faceoff against his former club Bayern Munich. Lyon will now be proceeding for that march against Bayern, which recently beat Spanish club FC Barcelona by a whopping 8-2. Bayern Munich and Lyon will be holding their semi-finals faceoff on Wednesday, the 19th of August. Yglesias has set up another journalism outlet that's built on the popular Substack platform for subscription content. That outlet is named 'Snow Boring', which Yglesias touts as reclaiming "what I had in my blog days as an independent voice", likely comparing to Vox.com which is known to be left-leaning as concerning American politics. Yglesias's departure comes six years after he co-founded Vox.com under the umbrella of Vox Media, a digital media company that operates other popular brands such as technology news site The Verge , real estate site Curbed , and sports site SB Nation . Trump Signs Order Suspending Student Loan Payments Till Year End

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that extends a suspension on student loan payments for Americans till the end of this year due to economic hassles resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The Trump administration previously signed an order enabling payment suspensions for millions of student loan holders in the US up until the 30th of September, 2020. That order has now been extended to the 31st of December, 2020. Under the order, student loan holders are allowed to skip usually mandated installment payments although those who desire to still pay are allowed to do so. The coronavirus pandemic has led to millions of job losses across the US and resulting financial struggles for a large number of people. Several steps have been taken to help curtail that, with the suspension on student loan payments being one. For the main time as the suspension holds, interest rates on student debt facilities are also temporarily restrained to 0%.

Trump To Take Action On Chinese Software Companies: Pompeo

Mike Pompeo, the United States Secretary of State, has said that U.S. President Donald Trump will take action shortly on Chinese software companies that are supposedly feeding data directly to the Chinese government and apparently posing a risk to U.S. national security.
